The fabulous Potter League in Newport, Rhode Island hosted a talk by Nowzad founder Pen Farthing at their rescue facilities in early October thanks to the kind permission of Potter League CEO; Brad and President of the Board; the lovely Joan Freese.
Over 100 current and new supporters listened intently to the story of how Nowzad grew into the charity it is today from the humble beginnings of a Forward Operating Base in Helmand. Hannah manned the Nowzad merchandise table which thankfully due to some very generous people, was soon empty! Thank you to all those who donated and supported this event.
Joan and Potter League volunteer Negeen, arranged the 2nd annual Cappy’s bar fundraiser for Nowzad on the following night. The team (including Dick (selling raffle tickets on the door), Sean and Dick's daughter; took over the cozy bar serving beer and banter with all 'tips' going into the Nowzad fundraiser. With free pizza incentive (although not actually needed – the beer was enough!) and great prizes on offer in the raffle it was a top evening. Nowzad founder Pen was offered a bar stool to stand on to deliver his talk to a packed out room highlighting the need and importance of 'tipping' more to ensure the fundraiser was a success!
Over $5500 were raised – and most of us could remember it the next day!
