Nowzad Ukraine: A Dangerous Christmas Mission and a Strong Start to 2026
08 January 2026

While many of us were settling in for a well-deserved break over the Christmas and New Year period, the mission with Nowzad Ukraine didn't stop for a single second. As we kick off the first proper working week of 2026, we wanted to share exactly what our team has been up to on the frontlines there.

Something special happened at Nowzad HQ in Bradninch today! We had a very exciting visit from our truly wonderful supporter —the one and only Dom, who is officially one of Ewok’s biggest fans! Dom stopped by along with his amazing mum and sister, and honestly, they made our day. Not only did they bring along some lovely gifts for Ewok (who was naturally delighted by all the attention), but Dom also donated £40 of his very own pocket money to help the animals of Nowzad! 🧡 Dom, you are an abs

⚡️ Keeping the Lights On: Fury’s Power Patrol 🏥 Today, Fury took a deep dive into the “heartbeat” of the hospital: the Generator! In a city like Kabul, where the grid can go dark at any moment, these machines aren’t just equipment—they are literal lifesavers. While the rest of the city faces frequent power cuts, the hospital just can’t afford to lose power, even for a second. Imagine if our vets lost lights and monitors midway through operating on an animal or if we couldn’t keep our vaccines

Check out these sweet little baby macaques enjoying their enriched enclosure at our Donkey Sanctuary in Kabul! While we wait for NEPA’s final decision on their future, Dr Reshad gives us updates every day on how they’re doing, and how very healthy, happy, and full of energy they really are! Among the group is one extra-special little girl who is completely blind, so we’ve made sure NEPA knows all about her needs and hope they can make the best decision for her long-term care. #WildlifeRescue

At just three months old, Abi had already endured more pain than any living being should. Found with wire and rope tightened around her leg, she arrived at our hospital in deep distress. 🐾 But look at her now! Thanks to expert care and her own incredible spirit, Abi is blossoming. Even with a slight limp, she is a bundle of joy, chasing her kennel mates and wagging her tail at every friendly face. The best news? A beautiful future is waiting for her. Abi has been chosen by a wonderful family

The transformation is officially underway! We’ve taken our decommissioned ambulance — the future TNVRu (The Nowzad’s Veterinary Response Unit) for Ukraine — and started the ultimate teardown and kit-out. As you can see from the photos, we aren’t playing around. We’ve been ripping out the old to make room for the new. It’s messy, it’s loud, but it’s the only way to build a mobile clinic that can handle the toughest conditions. Once the refit is complete, this unit is hitting the road across
