A note from Pen
14 November 2022

The last year did not have to be like it was. Operation Ark was meant to be a glimmer of hope from the chaos and turmoil of the western worlds complete and utter failure of the Afghan people.

Surely we should have been celebrating the successful evacuation of 67 Afghan nationals; including pregnant women and extremely young children who now had the opportunity for new lives in the United Kingdom free from oppression, along with the 94 dogs and 68 cats of the Nowzad clinic?

Update on our puppies! The Lucky 7. Today we’ve seen these little survivors out in the sunshine at our Hospital and enjoying a little bit of fuss, sniffs and soft food. Nothing short of a miracle really, given what happened to them over the weekend. They still have a long road ahead to heal their skin, but for today, we are celebrating these small, sunny victories. Thank you everyone, for making these second chances possible 🧡 #Nowzad #RescueUpdate #KabulPuppies #SurvivorStories #AnimalRe

We promise you this has a happy ending‼️ Over the weekend, our Chief Vet Dr. Reshad received an emergency call: a member of the public had found a litter of tiny puppies on a back road trapped in a horrific pool of thick industrial tar⚫️ By the time our team could get to them late afternoon, the situation was critical. The tar was acting like concrete around the puppies🐾. It was impossible to free them safely on-site without causing further injury, so our team had to make the decision to tran

Imagine your family’s entire livelihood just vanishing almost overnight. In the more remote areas around Kabul city, a silent and absolutely preventable tragedy is happening. Recently, Dr. Reshad has been called to several devastating cases where household dairy cows have been bitten by rabid dogs. Once symptoms of rabies appear, there is no cure and it is extremely distressing to see. To prevent further suffering and protect the family, Dr. Reshad has had to keep making the difficult decision

It’s Thursday! It’s almost the end of the week! It’s Fury Time! Today he’s been our resident “Sous-Chef” at the Nowzad Hospital, taking it upon himself to help the team prep the daily enrichment for his fellow rescue residents. Kong Stuffing! For the dogs in our hospital and shelter, mental stimulation is just as important as physical healing. Kongs are a game-changer for this, providing the dogs with: 💪Stress relief: chewing and licking releases endorphins, helping our rescues feel calm in
