While our teams are working tirelessly across Ukraine as we speak, life at our hospital in Kabul continues to be full of surprises! Last week, we collaborated once again with Afghanistan’s National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) to protect the country's precious wildlife too.
This partnership took us across the country. We had a young Ibex (a sturdy, majestic mountain goat known for its impressive curved horns) come in that had been narrowly saved from hunters by alert NEPA staff from the rugged mountains of Kandahar.
Meanwhile, a black crowned night heron (very striking and elusive bird with a distinct black plumage) was also rescued from a dangerous hunting situation from Ghazni province. Kandahar and Ghazni are provinces with deep histories and breathtaking natural beauty, but the logistics of transporting animals across these distances are always a challenge.
You might be wondering why a veterinary trauma hospital in the middle of Kabul city is helping wildlife. We think the answer is in these photos. We recently took in a deer too found with a severely broken leg. As you can see in the X-ray images, our medical team used a lot of precision and care to ensure this beautiful animal a second chance at life.
Thank you for all your support, for all these animals big and small, furry and feathered!
