Meet the Nowzad team is proud to introduce Zakia.
Working behind the scenes to prepare the dog food; wash the blankets used in the kennels and the clinic, ensure staff scrubs are clean and pressed, whilst also ensuring the main house is kept hoovered and dust free. ( A serious chore in Afghanistan!) and truth be known; always finding time to play with resident dogs BJ and TinTin; Zakia is truly dedicated to the cause of animal welfare in Afghanistan. Sadly now widowed, (Zakia cared for her husband who sadly suffered from Alzheimer’s for 9 years before he passed) her grandchildren from her 7 children keep her occupied when she gets home from work! Never without a smile, Zakia seems to learn a new word of English daily to surprise Pen as she greets him when she arrives at the clinic. Zakia is a true dog person as she thinks they are very smart. Teaching TinTin to shake paws is always a favourite story of hers! Her day off on Friday is spent watching TV... and we won’t deny her that luxury!! Although she is also a huge fan of chocolate!! This is Zakia.
