Happy World Veterinary Day!

Today we celebrate the incredible dedication of vets worldwide, like the amazing Dr. Lach (and our honoury vet Pen!), who are both on the ground in Borodianka, Ukraine, providing vital vaccinations and de-worming treatments to stray and abandoned animals. Their tireless work brings health and hope to those who need it most.

And really, today is the day to say the biggest "thank you" all you incredible vets that have helped Nowzad over the years: Dr Reshad and his team of vets in Kabul and now the UK following Operation Ark, Dr Alex, Angela and all those working day and night in clinics across Ukraine to help us promote animal welfare there - to name but a few.

We salute you all for your never-ending compassion and commitment!

Today marks a milestone in the life of the Nowzad charity… we have turned 18! Our charity was created after the rescue of a docked eared former fighting dog called Nowzad back in 2007. None of us back then really knew what was to come and what Nowzad’s legacy would create but here we are, an internationally recognised charity operating in Afghanistan and Ukraine. Imagine finding an animal utterly resigned to its fate. That’s what Nowzad’s Chief Vet Dr Reshad faced with ‘Maverick’ in February, amidst the rubble of one of Afghanistan’s notoriously bleak brick kilns. Numbers vary but there are around 600 kilns across Kabul alone, where horses are often worked to death.
