A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Animal Sponsors!

We want to extend our gratitude for opening your heart and sponsoring our incredible animals. Your support makes a real difference in their lives!

We're thrilled to bring you updates on our beloved residents: the ever-wagging Dieselthe playful Charliethe gentle giant Babrithe purr-fectly brave Nazli, and the miraculously recovered Maqbola. You'll read all about their latest adventures and how your generosity is helping them thrive.

Diesel: Still Wagging and Stealing Hearts!

Look at our wonderful boy Diesel, the 12-year-old with an incredibly sweet and affectionate nature. This special boy being sponsored by Nowzad supporters, continues to touch the hearts of our team in Kabul.

Every time a familiar face approaches these days, Diesel's tail starts wagging with excitement, often accompanied by a soft, happy bark! Unlike many dogs, Diesel doesn't make a lot of noise; instead, he quietly expresses his affection in the most heartwarming ways.

Despite his senior status, Diesel's zest for life and playful spirit shine through, especially when treats are involved!

Diesel's love for water remains a source of pure joy for him, whether splashing about or simply watching it. He also continues to enjoy his brushing sessions with Awrang, happily sitting still for all the pampering.

Please click here to sponsor Diesel, who, very surprisingly, is our least popular sponsor animal! Let’s give this wonderful boy a boost today.

Charlie's Happy Life at Nowzad

Life continues to be good for Charlie, who arrived at the Nowzad Donkey Sanctuary back in 2021 with his mother, Pat. Their arrival, just weeks before the shift in power in Afghanistan, offered them a much brighter future than the hardship they had faced.

Their previous owner made the difficult decision to relinquish them both, recognising the immense challenges she would face working under the new regime.

Now, around the age of six, Charlie has truly landed on his hooves at the Sanctuary. He remains incredibly close to Pat and rarely ventures far from her side.

Their shared love of carrots and apples is as strong as ever, and both will eagerly jostle for prime position whenever the delicious deliveries arrive!

Charlie's youthful energy finds its outlet in the exercise yard, where he and his best pal, Kushi, another of the Sanctuary's younger residents, can often be found kicking up dust and generally enjoying some playful chaos.

Beneath his playful exterior, Charlie is a very affectionate donkey, happily interacting with both his four-legged and two-legged caregivers. However, his deepest bond remains with his dear mum, Pat, and their stable provides a comforting constant for them both. Please, sponsor Charlie today

Babri's Peaceful World: An Update on the Gentle Giant

As his name suggests, Babri is a native Afghan breed, and his strong and fearless roots truly shine through in his impressive physique.

Now around nine years young, we first had the privilege of meeting Babri two years ago, and it was clear he had been through a lot.

What's truly endearing about Babri, though, is that despite his past, he has an incredibly calm and quiet nature. And while you might expect a dog of his size to be boisterous, Babri prefers gentle strolls to energetic runs.

If you want to see him truly happy, just reach for a brush! Grooming is undoubtedly his favourite part of the day; he adores it.

Interestingly, Babri keeps mostly to himself. Unlike many other dogs, he doesn't spend much time socialising with the rest of our animal family. This isn't due to any lack of friendliness, but rather about his instincts. He finds contentment in peaceful naps and enjoys the tranquillity of his quiet world.

Thank you for your continued support, which makes stories like Babri's happy ending possible. You can sponsor Babri today

Nazli: Spreading Joy, Purrs, and Paw-some Bravery!

Meet one of our truly special residents, Nazli! This sweet and loving girl continues to capture the hearts of everyone she meets with her gentle personality and wonderfully friendly nature. She has such a knack for making everyone feel instantly at ease in her presence.

What truly makes Nazli so endearing is her absolute adoration for cuddles. The moment you step into her room, she's right there, gently nudging your feet to say, "Please, pick me up!"

Cuddling Nazli is a truly calming and relaxing experience and many of our staff pop in the cat room whenever they can for a quick cuddle.

There's something so incredibly comforting about that soft, rumbling purr!

But Nazli isn't just a cuddle bug; she also possesses a remarkable bravery that truly sets her apart. Unlike many cats who might be hesitant around dogs or new environments, Nazli is wonderfully fearless. She doesn't think twice about approaching and happily coexisting with the dogs around her, and would probably cuddle up with them too if she had the chance! Sponsor Nazli here.

Meet Maqbola – The Brave Donkey with a Heart of Gold

You might remember our beautiful white donkey, Maqbola, who arrived at the Nowzad hospital as a critical emergency. Tragically, she and the cart she was pulling were struck by a car, leaving her with a severely broken and splintered thigh bone and hip. Thankfully, after some convincing, her owner agreed to let our dedicated veterinary team take over her care.

During her recovery, Maqbola quickly stole the hearts of our staff and became a beloved member of our animal family.

Her gentle and affectionate nature has shone through, making her a firm favourite with everyone.

Maqbola happily spends her days munching on any little treat offered to her, with carrots being a particular favourite!

This sweet girl remains incredibly friendly and gets along wonderfully with both humans and her fellow donkeys. She absolutely loves to be cuddled, brushed and enjoys all the affection she receives. Please, sponsor this beautiful donkey

Thank you, everybody, for all your comments on Nowzad’s facebook yesterday following our education day at the Kabul animal hospital. It’s undeniably sad and frustrating to know that the female students couldn’t attend because they are not currently allowed to attend secondary school. That’s a huge barrier that highlights the broader challenges regarding education equality. However, we can still be proud that Nowzad is doing what it can within the existing restrictions. Sometimes, the most impor

What a truly fantastic day we had last week at our Nowzad Animal Hospital in Kabul! Our vet team organised an education day with the animals for around 45 very enthusiastic school students, all focused on teaching them how to be safe around animals and treat them with kindness. The session focused on two crucial topics: rabies prevention and general animal welfare. It was wonderful to see the students soak up all the information! This activity was all about encouraging learning in a friendly a
