Ayka’s journey to safety began in the war-torn Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine - near Kurakhove and Maksymilyanivka. She and another mare, Liberty, were found wandering close to the active frontline by Ukrainian military personnel. Unable to leave the vulnerable horses behind, the compassionate soldiers actively searched for a way to evacuate them.

One of the soldiers shared their plight on social media, which quickly reached the rescue team through supportive friends. Coordinating closely with the soldier and the "Animal Rescue Kharkiv" team, a rescue operation was organised. Ayka was successfully evacuated from the frontlines and transported to her new home at Horse Paradise Ranch in Kyiv, marking the end of her survival in a conflict zone and the beginning of a life filled with care.
