This calendar takes us back to where the Nowzad story began — Afghanistan.

The photographs throughout our 2027 Nowzad Afghanistan Calendar were taken over the past year at the Nowzad Hospital and Maverick’s Sanctuary in Kabul, capturing some of the animals, people and everyday moments that make our work there so special.

And these really are everyday moments. Donkeys enjoying a well-earned treat, rescued horses tucking into carrots, dogs making new friends, and patients of all shapes and sizes receiving the care they need at our hospital. There are moments that will make you smile, and others that remind us just how much a little kindness can change an animal’s life.

Each month features a photograph and a little story behind it, introducing you to some of the wonderful characters who call Nowzad home — including a few familiar faces!

For us, this calendar is a little window into life at Nowzad in Kabul. It shows the work that quietly continues every single day: feeding, treating, rescuing, rehabilitating and simply giving animals the chance to feel safe and cared for.
