Adopting A Nowzad Rescue

Lexi Lexi

Cpl Day found a young female pup abandoned on the side of the road. His photograph of Lexi being carried back to camp became the iconic cover photo for our Nowzad charity – it symbolised the mission we undertake to assist as many soldiers as we can rescue the companion animals they have adopted on the frontlines.

In the emails he sent to us Cpl Day was desperate to have Lexi brought to the Nowzad shelter for vaccinations and to be safe while we arranged for her to go to the USA.

Sadly though Cpl Day never saw that wish come true. He was killed in action on the 24th April 2011 serving his country.

But his fellow soldiers were not about to abandoned Lexi and the wish to get her stateside. Nowzad worked together with the soldiers to transport Lexi first to the Nowzad shelter and then onward to the US to live with Cpl Day’s family.
