Dude was around 4 weeks old when some local children brought him to the base. His soldier immediately fell in love with Dude or his full name as he was sometimes known; El Duderino.
The young pup was a huge boost to the unit’s morale and he spent his life eating MRE’s and playing with his new family of soldiers.
In March 2011 we made arrangements for Dude to be transported to the Nowzad shelter and he arrived extremely bewildered having travelled most of the way from southern Afghanistan in a wooden box. But at least he was safe.
After vaccinations and a few months of fundraising we were so happy to see El Duderino start his new life in America with one of the first soldiers who started to look after him.
