However one of the soldiers who has just arrived had become very attached to Gimpy so he made it his mission to keep her hidden whilst nearly all of the other dogs were sadly put to sleep. Gimpy though had become pregnant and soon gave birth. The soldier did his best to look after Gimpy and her pups but with patrols and having to go on his leave period he came back to find only one of Gimpy’s pups was still there; the others had been taken to different camps by other soldiers so there was just Gimpy and her pup Bear.
We received a call for help as the soldier was determined to have the two dogs come to live with him in the USA.
At the Nowzad clinic we noticed that Gimpy was still fighting a severe infection from the pregnancy – how she had survived without proper meds was a miracle but thankfully our vets were able to treat her and nurse her back to full health. Four months later she fit to fly with her pup to their new forever home in the USA.
