Named after our wonderful patron Ricky Gervais, this brave soul is the embodiment of resilience. When we first met Ricky at the brick kilns, he was a shadow of a horse, his spirit nearly extinguished by years of relentless toil and severe malnutrition. It was a race against time to bring him to the sanctuary, and there were moments during his first few days with us where we feared he might not make it.

But, much like his namesake, Ricky has a defiant streak. Watching him gain strength, take his first steady steps on green grass, and then realise that no one will ever demand labour from him again has been an absolute joy. He is a gentle reminder of why we fight so hard for the forgotten ones.
