Beauty is Nowzad’s very first rescue to our new Donkey Sanctuary in Kabul. He is a hugely resilient horse who has clearly had a very difficult life so far, but is now on the road firmly to recovery. Rescued from a life of overwork and neglect, he is finally getting the care he deserves.
This beautiful white horse is part of a larger story involving hundreds and hundreds of horses every year traded across borders in South Asia - particularly from countries like Pakistan and Iran to Afghanistan - to work in demanding industries there like the brick kilns. These animals often endure a very long and traumatic journey on trucks and lorries across countries, arriving to Kabul in extremely poor condition even before they begin their gruelling work.
Beauty’s biggest challenge upon rescue was acute weakness and significant weight loss due to malnutrition and dehydration. Thankfully, Beauty is now eating properly and getting stronger every day.
While he is making remarkable progress, Beauty does have a permanent injury on one of his feet, probably from one of the truck journeys he must have made to Kabul. This is a common condition for working animals but is thankfully manageable with ongoing care at our Sanctuary. Despite this and the pain he is obviously in, Beauty is thriving already, and his sweet, gentle nature is shining through as he continues his journey to health and happiness.
Please consider making a donatation to help another donkey or horse receive the treatment they all so desperately need. Thank-you for caring.
