In Memory of Shadow

Our sweet boy Shadow came to the Nowzad Donkey Sanctuary in the depths of winter 2022 from a little village west of Kabul called Deh Mazang. He was working long hours every day to help his owner earn enough money for his family. The heavy carts were overladen with supplies of building materials, water, and goods which he transported across Kabul city. When our vet team came across Shadow, it was clear immediately how much he was suffering from joint displacement in the hip and legs, as well as horrific wounds. The injuries were caused by pulling the heavy carts and ill-fitting harnesses.

As soon as our team brought Shadow to the Nowzad clinic, his treatment began. All of his wounds were cleaned and bandaged, and he was started on antibiotics and pain relief straight away. The vets made sure to vaccinate and deworm him too, to try and get him back to full health as soon as possible. His recovery was remarkable, and fortunately, his owner agreed to Nowzad keeping him permanently.

Shadow lived out the rest of his life in the comfort he deserved at our donkey sanctuary, always sharing a pen with his best friend, Jack. Shadow was a carrot-loving donkey who will be greatly missed by everyone at Nowzad.

Please consider making a donatation to help another donkey or horse receive the treatment they all so desperately need. Thank-you for caring.
