Nowzad Update - Operation Ark

Operation Ark was a partial success with the safe evacuation of the Nowzad animals and Pen from Kabul during the last few hours of Kabul airport being secured by British and American troops.

Sadly the Taliban were not willing to let our Afghan national staff leave Afghanistan even though they finally had the correct paperwork from the UK government.

The dogs and cats of Operation Ark are now safely in quarantine and holding kennels relevant to their vaccinations and DEFRA approved blood testing dates and will be available for adoption from the Nowzad website in due course. Please do not message the quarantine kennels directly. They do not have the capacity or authority to adopt out any Nowzad dogs or cats.

The list of available dogs and cats and the procedure for adopting them will be published during mid-September. Our only focus now as a charity is the safety of our staff who were forced to remain in Kabul.

Thank you for your amazing and super generous support and for understanding as we move forward into a new chapter of the Nowzad charity.

🐾 Rainy Days with Fury! 🐾 There’s no such thing as “bad weather” when you have a hospital compound to patrol and a garden to tend! 🌧️ Our wonderful Roving Ambassador, Fury, didn’t let today’s April showers dampen his spirits. He headed out for a stroll around the Nowzad compound with Dr. Salim to squeeze in a bit of spring maintenance. While Dr. Salim was busy with the pruning shears, Fury took his job very seriously—mostly by sniffing every wet leaf and making sure the flower pots were up

Yesterday morning, our incredible Vijay Kritzinger set off from Exmouth to begin her challenge for the animals of Nowzad. It was a truly special start! ❤️ To ensure she had the best possible send-off, Pen and the Nowzad team headed down to join her for those first few miles. Mind you, with a 7:00 am meeting time, Pen might still be wondering where those extra hours of sleep went! Pen Farthing and David Hill brought Ewok Nowzad to see Vijay off at Exmouth, where they picked up the supplies that

A little task for you all this bright and breezy Monday morning... 😊 This gentle donkey arrived at our hospital a couple of months ago, carrying with him so much pain. He was suffering from a dislocated shoulder in his right front leg — an injury typically resulting from extreme overwork or a sudden, violent trauma. For an animal whose life depends on mobility, every step he took before arriving at Nowzad was a struggle. After his rescue, he was immediately placed under full supervision. With

💙 Happy Caturday from the Frontlines Again! 💙🐾 This «Caturday», we’ve got another update from our incredible partners at Dog & Duck and the soldiers at the frontlines. Together, we have a shared mission - to help the cats (and dogs) caught in the crossfire of the conflict in Ukraine. So far in 2026, we have successfully sterilised and neutered an incredible 192 cats already! That’s 192 lives improved, countless kittens prevented from a life of hardship (we’ve done the maths and that’s appro

🐾 Huge thanks to everyone who has already donated to the Ambo Project! The supplies we’re collecting will equip our ambulance heading to Ukraine, where it will serve as a mobile veterinary unit for critical vaccination, neutering, and return operations. By bringing care directly to the field, we’re overcoming logistical challenges to help dogs and cats when they need it most. 🚚 We are continuing to collect donations of surgical essentials, diagnostic tools, wound care supplies, and more from
