World Spay Day 2025

Nowzad Team Makes Significant Impact on World Spay Day 2025

In a powerful display of dedication to animal welfare, Nowzad’s team of seven skilled veterinarians made a significant contribution to the 2025 World Spay Day. On February 25th, our team successfully spayed/neutered an amazing 32 cats and 41 dogs, while also providing vital rabies vaccinations to help reduce disease incidence and transmission to humans.

World Spay Day, an international annual campaign, focuses on the importance of Capture-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release (CNVR also know as TNVR) programmes across the world to combat animal overpopulation. Nowzad's participation highlights our charity‘s ongoing commitment to humane animal population control and public health.

As our incredible Chief Vet at Nowzad’s Animal Hospital Dr Reshad said "Our team worked tirelessly and late into the night to provide these essential services. Spaying/neutering is not only crucial for reducing the number of stray animals, but also for improving the overall health and well-being of those animals. Plus, the rabies vaccinations we give to every animal passing through our doors play a key role in preventing the spread of this deadly disease – I have sadly seen for myself the devastating way rabies attacks a body and the impact of losing a child to the disease as my friend and neighbour went through it. I have made it my life to fight against rabies and am so grateful for all the support from Nowzad”.

The impact of Nowzad's efforts extends beyond the individual animals treated. By controlling the population of street animals, we are also helping to reduce the strain on local resources and contributing to a safer and healthier environment for Kabul.

As long as these issues exist in Afghanistan, Nowzad remains dedicated to its mission of providing care and support to animals in need.

As part of Operation Kramatorsk, our incredible partner, Ksenia, has been on the ground very recently - visiting the “hidden” feline heroes of this frontline city. Here - there is a quiet, tireless army of women refusing to leave their four-legged family members behind. Ksenia recently visited Natalia – a volunteer who shares her tidy, bright flat with 70 cats. Most of these cat rescues were brought to her by soldiers from the front lines because they know Natalia’s door is always open. Despite

It’s been a whirlwind of a week here in Ukraine, with Operation Kramatorsk. We’ve had some incredible wins, like getting five more dogs out of Kramatorsk and safely to Kyiv yesterday —including sweet little Peter, who is now receiving the veterinary care he needs! Of course, the frontlines always throw challenges our way. Our ambulance has unfortunately broken down again, which is a tough setback for our team. But the work doesn’t stop! We’re still pushing forward with our veterinary work (neu

Yesterday was one of the long ones, but it was worth every second! Just look at the dogs as they come out of the crates after the journey, into their new home for now. Dan and Pen have just finished a VERY tough 12-hour drive to get 5 more dogs out of the danger zone in Kramatorsk and safely into the shelter in Kyiv. #nowzad #kramatorsk #operationkramatorsk #ukrainerelief #nowzaddogscharity

Today has been a total whirlwind of emotion, action, and hope. In the Field with Pen 🎥 Check out the video from Pen, who’s currently en route with a truckload of animals - one dog (‘Peter’) going straight to the vets in Kyiv this evening to hopefully resolve some worrying health issues. We’re moving as fast as we can to get these dogs to safety in Kyiv and away from the immediate dangers of the conflict. Every mile brings them closer to a new, peaceful life. Morning everybody out there! Pen and Dan have just arrived back at the shelter in Kramatorsk. But the situation feels even more critical this morning. Last night, Pen witnessed the devastating impact of the conflict, counting at least 13 Shahid drone strikes in the area. The destruction and pain caused to everyday Ukrainian people and their animals just seems relentless. 💔 But we aren’t just watching; we’re acting! Pen and Dan are currently building crates to evacuate 5 more dogs today, movin
