Remembering 9/11: A Day We Will Never Forget

Today, as the world pauses for the solemn 25th anniversary of 9/11, our thoughts at Nowzad are with every family, community, and first responder honouring the 2,977 lives lost on that tragic September morning in 2001. As people gather at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville for ceremonies of remembrance, a quarter of a century feels both like a lifetime ago and like yesterday.

The ripples of that fateful day reshaped the world in ways no one could have predicted. For Nowzad, the path began directly in the aftermath. As a result of the events of 9/11, our founder, Pen Farthing, was deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, as a sergeant with the British Royal Marines.

Today, as quiet moments of silence are observed around the world, we remember the lives lost, all those people that suffered so sadly in the wake of it all, and honour those who served.

We will never forget.

As winter approaches in Kabul, dropping temperatures bring real challenges for the animals in our care — especially our elderly shelter dogs with aching joints, like Diesel, Babri, and Fury, Ramy with her chronic skin condition, and then also any young pups recovering in our emergency hospital. To keep our most vulnerable patients safe and comfortable, we are building three dedicated, heated kennels at our Kabul Hospital. And guess what??! If you donate, it will go twice as far! All thanks t
