Yesterday, our team in Kabul celebrated 'World Rabies Day' (on behalf of the Global Alliance for Rabies Control) which means they've all been very hard at work both on the streets and in the classroom!
And here's how...
Throughout the day, they vaccinated 11 owned dogs against rabies, helping protect both these beloved pets and the families who care for them. Togo was one them (remember him?) - more on Togo's new life with an Afghan family coming soon...
They also spread vital health information far and wide, placing an amazing 45 - yes 45! - educational banners in high-traffic areas and major public squares across Kabul.
And, as if that wasn't enough for one day, hosted a special rabies awareness and animal welfare event for local children at our hospital. The children learned essential safety rules on how to stay safe around street dogs, prevent rabies, and treat animals with kindness. The highlight of the day? Safe, supervised playtime with some very happy puppies! Everyone's a winner!
Rabies is 100% preventable, and through vaccination, education, and community outreach, we are creating a safer environment for both humans and animals in Afghanistan.
Thank you to everyone who makes this life-saving work possible!
