The Ukrainian six to the United Kingdom

Help us bring rescued dogs from Ukraine to the UK for a second chance at life

Nowzad is on a mission to bring hope, love, and a forever home to dogs rescued from the dire circumstances in Ukraine. The recent turmoil, which saw 11.6 million people flee their homes, has left hundreds of thousands of dogs in desperate need of care. Since 2022, there has been a shocking 30% increase in the stray animal population across the country, and numbers of rescued animals placed in shelters has increased by 100% in frontline areas. Tragically, limited resources, space and funding make it extremely challenging for these shelters to cope, and the situation worsens every month, as Russian forces advance.

Our Mission: So many of these animals on Ukraine’s streets are pets abandoned by their owners during evacuation. They have endured unimaginable hardships, but now, with your help, we can offer six of them a safe haven and a loving family in the UK, just like they once had in Ukraine.

These six dogs were all rescued from the Kramatorsk area by a shelter supported by Nowzad. We supply regular food, veterinary equipment, medicines and kennelling to the shelter, as well as daily support to the staff. Kramatorsk city is located about 30km from the front line which makes it very vulnerable to Russian strikes. Over 60% of the population has fled the city since 2022, many of whom made the heart-breaking decision to leave their pets behind. It is a very hard sight to see so many animals, once somebody’s pet, try to survive on the streets.

In order for the Kramatorsk shelter to take in and nurse back to health more of these injured and abandoned animals, we have made the decision to help them free up some much-needed space. This is crucial before the bitterly cold winter months set in again, when temperatures in the region plunge to subzero.

Our Goal: Our goal is to urgently raise £7,000 to cover the costs of transporting these six dogs to the UK, (via road which is vastly cheaper than flying the dogs as we have to do from Afghanistan). We have ensured they will receive the medical attention, vaccinations, and care they need before and after their arrival. They are currently completing their quarantine period whilst we raise the necessary funds, including undergoing a full vaccination regime, being tested for Brucella and rabies and also being neutered/spayed.

Each donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to providing these resilient dogs with a second chance at life. Together, we can transform their stories of survival into tales of joy and unconditional love.

Join us in this heartfelt journey and make a lasting difference in the lives of these deserving animals. Your support means the world to these animals, but also to the shelter staff in Kramatorsk who are spurred on to continue their desperate work when they know this can be the result.
