Protecting Dogs, Protecting Communities: Nowzad’s Fight Against Rabies

Today, as we celebrate the special bond between humans and dogs, we are also reminded of the critical responsibility we have to protect both.

A recent article in The Telegraph highlighted a very worrying global reality...after decades of progress, human rabies cases are rising again in several parts of the world. Experts agree that the key to ending this preventable tragedy isn't culling — which is both inhumane and ineffective — but coordinated mass dog vaccination. Vaccinating dogs protects the animals we love and saves human lives.

At Nowzad, we are poised to take direct action.

Right now in Kabul, our team is actively conducting comprehensive surveys of dog populations across several key areas of the city. These surveys are the vital first step toward launching our upcoming mass rabies vaccination drive. By establishing herd immunity, we can safeguard Kabul’s street dogs and protect the local community from this devastating disease.

Every dog deserves a life free from fear and disease, and every community deserves to be safe.

Thank you for standing with Nowzad as we work toward a rabies-free future!
