Found wandering near active trenches, abandoned horses are often taken in by compassionate soldiers before being evacuated west to safety by brave organisations like Animal Rescue of Kharkiv (ARK). Their final destination…Horse Paradise Rescue Ranch in Kyiv, central Ukraine.
At Horse Paradise, the tireless team — led by Kseniya and Halyna with support from Charles — defies harsh winters and scorching summers to provide vital medical care. Rescues like the once-emaciated Barkhan and Marusya have truly flourished under their supervision. The ranch even welcomed a new life when Tana, a heavily pregnant rescued mare, gave birth to her foal, Tavrida, a couple of weeks after her rescue. To accommodate this growing family, the ranch recently expanded with three new paddocks and seven shelters.
Healing Horses and Heroes
The healing at Horse Paradise goes both ways too. In addition to rehabilitating horses, the ranch runs powerful equine-assisted therapy programmes for serving soldiers, veterans, and their families, helping them process the deep psychological traumas of war.
