The Nowzad Hospital was an absolute whirlwind of activity on 24 Feb 2026 for World Spay Day, which was the first one held in the new hospital facility.
The veterinary team hit an incredible target by the end of the day, carrying out TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) for 80 stray dogs and cats collected from every corner of Kabul. These animals are currently resting in the hospital, recovering from successful spay and neuter surgeries.
By preventing future litters, the team has removed the heavy physical burden of reproduction and nursing from these animals. This is a crucial step for their individual welfare, especially as they already face significant struggles to survive on the streets. Each animal has also been fully vaccinated against rabies, which essentially makes the city safer for everyone.
In a few days, these resilient animals will return to their home territories. They go back healthier, protected, and as a key part of the long-term solution to Kabul’s stray population.
