It’s crazy how quickly a normal day on-site can turn into a life-saving mission.
When roadwork began in Pul-e-Charkhi, Kabul, engineers made a discovery beneath the asphalt they were breaking up - 15 tiny puppies from four different litters, all huddled together inside holes under the road.
Recognising the danger the pups were in, the engineers stopped their machinery and called our Nowzad animal hospital for help.
By some miracle, not a single puppy was injured, though they had lost their mothers. Tragically, one mother in very poor condition passed away shortly after they had discovered them, while the others had disappeared in the noise and chaos.
Our team brought all 15 puppies straight back to the clinic. Four are currently very weak and lethargic from severe hunger, so our immediate focus is getting them fed, warm, and stabilised. Once they are strong enough, we’ll assess whether they can safely survive back on the streets or if we need to find them loving homes.
Rescues like this happen without warning, and caring for 15 hungry puppies takes round-the-clock medical care and resources.
