Introducing the Heroes of Operation Kramatorsk

Operation Kramatorsk would not be possible without the incredible dedication of our volunteers and team members working tirelessly across Ukraine.

From frontline veterinary care and emergency medical support to delivering life-saving supplies through dangerous conditions, every member of the team has played a vital role in helping animals and communities affected by war.

Whether caring for injured animals, supporting shelters, managing logistics, fundraising, or simply bringing hope and compassion to those around them, each person has made a lasting difference.

We are endlessly grateful to this remarkable team whose courage, kindness, and commitment continue to inspire us every single day.

Dan Tatches:

Meet Dan — One of the Volunteers Behind Operation Kramatorsk

As promised, we are introducing some of the dedicated volunteers helping support our work in Ukraine. Today, we would like you to meet Dan, whom many of you may recognise from Pen’s recent video in Kramatorsk.

Dr. Lach:

Lach, as our Alpha Team affectionately call him brings not only much needed skills to this mission, he brings compassion and hope too. Thank you Lach and thank you everyone who are helping make his and our work here possible.

Angela Mars:

Angela is not only an exceptional veterinary technician, but also a trained medic, bringing dedication, compassion, and strength to the mission every single day.
Her skills and commitment make her an invaluable part of the Operation Kramatorsk team. Thank you, Angela, for everything you do!

Ksenia:

Meet Ksenia, a brave, heroic young woman who stayed behind to help shelter animals amidst lethal attacks on Kramatorsk. Thank you Ksenia, for every life you're helping to save.

Vol:

Today we meet Vol, our Ukraine Warehouse Manager. If you saw Pen's post yesterday you will have learned, its really Vol that does the heavy lifting at the logistics hub.

Vol is not only extremely hard working, he's also excellent at navigating some of the treacherous roads Nowzad delivers supplies to...a kind and compassionate young man, who always has a cheerful smile despite personal tragedy and we are most fortunate to have on the team.

Lucy Bradley RVN:

Last week Lucy got to work her magic alongside Dr Lach and Angela, operating under slightly less conventional methods than she would back home. Her kindness and compassion, matched by acute professional skills meant great team work at Hostomel and Borodianka, Lucy's crazy sense of humour was much appreciated as it helped break any tension surrounding the mission. Great having you on our team, Lucy!

Vijay Kritzinger:

When not tackling physical and fundraising challenges for Nowzad and other animal charities Vijay works as a Graphic and digital designer.

When not in her day job, she's a full time volunteer, donating her skills and time to help charities raise awareness and funds. Her passion is not just helping all animals but doing anything it takes to see a cause through, including stepping up at the community centre in Borodianka last week to help the veterinary team when they were stretched. This Saturday, you will find her at Northumbria University in Newcastle, UK talking about Nowzad's work in Ukraine and Afghanistan and fundraising.

Liuba Mocharska:

Liuba, is the heart of our Ukraine Operation.
She has been a vital key in ensuring things run as smoothly as possible despite any unexpected obstacles throughout the mission. Kindness and hospitality is a common quality amongst the Ukraine people and Liuba most certainly encompasses all of that and more. She is also a qualified vet, an opera lover, history buff and most talented artist as she embroidered the intricate art on the very top she's wearing in this photo! Liuba deeply loves her country and is doing all she can to fight for it's freedom and peace. We love you, Liuba! 🇺🇦

David Hill:

For more than 12 years, David Hill has been part of the heart and soul of the Nowzad family. As a passionate animal lover, David has given countless hours, endless energy, and a huge amount of compassion to animals who need it most.

Many of our supporters will know David from his chats back home alongside his beloved rescue Pomeranian, Ewok, but his commitment doesn’t stop there.

This time, David took on an incredible journey to support the Operation Kramatorsk team. Driving all the way from Devon to our warehouse in Lviv, he personally helped transport vital food and medical supplies donated by our amazing supporters.

And true to form, David didn’t slow down once he arrived.

He travelled across Ukraine to work hands-on alongside the wonderful Angela and Dr. Lach, supporting essential neutering and spaying clinics in Hostomel and Zaporizhzhia, while also helping deliver tonnes of life-saving food to our partner shelter in Borodianka.

From the south of England to frontline shelters in Ukraine, David’s unwavering dedication continues to inspire us all. His kindness, determination, and love for animals make a real difference every single day.

We honestly cannot thank him enough, Nowzad simply wouldn’t be the same without him.
