World Rabies Day 2024

The Nowzad charity’s Kabul team planned a full day of education and awareness in preparation for World Rabies Day which was on the 4th October 2024.

Our Nowzad Veterinary Team hosted a large education and outreach event at Kabul University, which included students and teachers from the veterinary faculty and other departments, plus government officials and municipality staff.

The team distributed leaflets explaining rabies prevention within the university along with our teams posting rabies prevention posters around all the main gathering areas in Kabul.

This deadly disease still claims over 1000 Afghan nationals every year, (that are actually known to be caused by rabies, we estimate there are sadly many more) due to the widespread lack of knowledge of the disease. Here in Afghanistan it is called ‘mad dog’ disease.

The Nowzad team offered free rabies vaccinations (as we do every day due to your amazing support) to all owned dogs and cats brought to the Nowzad’s hospital or through appointments at homes across the city.

And this is only possible due to the amazing donations we receive from you. Your generous support is the difference for the work that the Nowzad charity does on your behalf in Afghanistan.

By continuing to donate you are promoting animal welfare in Afghanistan. Thank you for being amazing!

Remember Blue? We first introduced you to this sweet boy back in December, and today, we are absolutely delighted to share an update on beautiful Blue! After his devastating accident, Blue’s road to recovery looked long and uncertain. The impact was severe, causing significant injuries to his internal organs — specifically his lungs — which required careful monitoring and X-rays to track the damage. He also struggled with a painful tear in her upper palate that made the simple act of eating a d

Thank you to every one of you who have asked us how they and all the animals are doing recently. We always pass your messages on. And it helps so much in times like these. ❤️ Your kindness and care keeps our teams going, until that day when peace finally replaces conflict and war. “In recent months, daily life in Afghanistan has b

What a busy and inspiring weekend for the whole Nowzad team! 🐾 While Pen was busy sharing our story with wonderful crowds in Totnes and the Royal British Legion Banstead, another part of the team was representing us in London. David, Ann, and Ewok made it to the Ealing Animal Charities Fair! It was a fantastic day spent manning the stand and connecting with so many passionate animal lovers. Highlights included catching up with our amazing patron, Peter Egan, who stopped by to show his suppor

Today marks a milestone that truly takes our breath away. For one entire decade, the incredible community at Raise 4 Nowzad has been a lifeline for the animals in our care. From the countless parcels packed with love to the relentless effort of organising monthly auctions, this group has been a force of nature. We are beyond thankful to the heart and soul of the group too, Ann. Because of her dedication and the R4N generosity, the total raised as of December 2025 is a staggering: £114,584.00
