Walk & Talk for Kindness – Sunday, 14 June 2026, Mane Chance Sanctuary

On behalf of Exercising Kindness and our amazing friend Lynn, we are so excited to invite you to a "Walk & Talk" event this June - supporting both Nowzad and the wonderful Mane Chance Sanctuary. This afternoon will be all about celebrating the bond between humans and animals — especially our hardworking equine companions. Join our one and only Pen, alongside the incredible Jenny Seagrove and Peter Egan, for an afternoon of stories and fresh air in the beautiful Surrey countryside.

As we walk, Pen will be sharing insights into our equine welfare projects in Afghanistan. While many know us for our work with cats and dogs, our Working Animal Programme also serves as a critical lifeline for local communities. Ask him anything you like about this vital work or Maverick’s Donkey Sanctuary in Kabul, which currently provides lifelong respite and care for 21 animals (horses, donkeys and even a goat!). The sanctuary is named in honour of Maverick - one of the bravest and most stoic horses we ever had the privilege of rescuing.

Pen will also be chatting about our critical outreach work. Nowzad provide free clinics for local owners in Kabul, offering everything from wound care and hoof trimming to nutritional advice and the distribution of padded harnesses, helping Kabul’s working animals lead more comfortable working lives.

OP KRAMATORSK: £5,000 ANONYMOUS MATCH CHALLENGE! We have some INCREDIBLE news from the very front line of our rescue mission in Ukraine — but it comes after a very distressing day in Kramatorsk yesterday. A devastating Russian strike hit the city centre, tragically claiming the lives of 5 people and leaving more than 20 others injured. This is the backdrop our team and many, many others is working against; the sounds of air raid sirens and the threat of strikes are constant. From the safety

On Tuesday the Nowzad team headed to work at the Hostomel shelter, a rural settlement in Kyiv Oblast, run by the lovely Maria. The area was heavily attacked since the war started, seeing the number of dogs rise to around 500 and approximately 200 cats. On the way, Peter and the rest of the team found it incredibly sad to pass scarred buildings and piles of rubble, no thanks to Russian missiles and drones - all in such close proximity to the shelter. Led by Dr Lachlan, more neutering and vacc

Pen did a live interview with Emma Bullimore on BBC this morning about the work Nowzad are currently doing in Ukraine. Enroute more supply-loading at the warehouse, Liuba took Peter Egan and team to pay respects to fallen Ukrainian soldiers. A very emotional morning and startling seeing the vast number of lives cut short by a senseless war. This isn't the end of it...there are many more graves for brave soldiers they've lost. #Ukraine #NoAnimalLeftBehind #CannonballRun #OperationKramatorsk
