For us to be able to assist with the rescue of a companion animal from Afghanistan the animal must already have a ‘forever’ home in place with the soldier or immediate family member in the west. We will also need exact location details of the companion animal concerned and communication with the soldier who is caring for the animal so that we can plan the normally complicated pick up and rescue of the animal. Thank you.
Please note that we are a charity (non-profit) that totally relies on public donations to operate our shelter and provide the logistics behind every successful rescue request received from companion animals from Afghanistan. It costs $4000+ for an animal to be transported from its current location on a FOB to our shelter (including shelter running costs and vaccines) and then onward transport to north America, (animals for the UK need to add quarantine fees bringing the cost to nearer £5000 in total).
The Nowzad Dogs charity asks for a financial commitment from the soldier or contractor - please do not expect the general public to fund the full cost of the rescue.

Due to the large volume of email we receive, if you are contacting us with a rescue request for an animal in Afghanistan please ensure you quote ‘RESCUE REQUEST’ in the subject line of the email so we can identify your email quicker.
Sadly due to the extremely complicated import regulations demanded by Australia (and not to mention the cost) Nowzad has sadly decided that we cannot facilitate rescues to Australia. We are extremely sorry but will still help with your rescue if you can find a forever home for the animal in North America, Canada or the UK
If you are attempting to rescue an animal from Afghanistan please do not email us if you are already in touch with other Afghan based animal welfare organisations. We all work together and so it will only end up confusing matters. Thank you.
