Cathy Kangas becomes the Global Ambassador for Nowzad

Cathy Kangas is a new Global Ambassador for Nowzad, our charity that reunites soldiers with the dogs that they befriended while on tour in Afghanistan.  Since its inception in 2007, Nowzad has rescued over 1000 dogs and cats for their soldiers in the United States, Canada, the UK and Europe.  Our clinic in Kabul provides animal welfare facilities for animals in need of treatment and we now employ the first three female Afghan nationals qualified as veterinarians.

Cathy first become aware of Nowzad when she read Founder and CEO Pen Farthing’s book “One Dog at a Time: Saving the Strays of Afghanistan” back in 2009 and decided immediately to help him.

Through her global skincare line PRAI Beauty, she has provided thousands of dollars in contributions to help Nowzad.

Back in 2011 she worked with American Airlines to bring home 12 dogs from Kabul to New York and enlisted the help of her friends including Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

Cathy’s assistance in raising awareness of Pen and the work of the Nowzad charity aided in him being voted the CNN Hero of the year for 2014.

She has also written about Nowzad on her Huffington Post blog.

As Global Ambassador for Nowzad she will work closely with Pen this year, which marks the 10 year anniversary since the very first rescue.  In addition to monetary support, Cathy will reach out to fellow dog lovers and ask them to join her in supporting Nowzad.

All of us here at Nowzad are very much looking forward to working with Cathy!
