Over the last few months Lize and her team have not only been undertaking gruelling training to complete this challenge but they have also held pub quizzes, cake sales and numerous other events to help raise money and awareness for Nowzad.

Finally, after all the training, Lize and the team undertook the huge task of climbing Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike and managed to raise over £4000 for Nowzad.

Brin the Afghan hound was adopted by Coldstream Guards and handed over to Gurkha Rifles troops after wandering on to their base several months ago.

The Royal Regiment of Scotland troops were left shocked after spotting kids using her as a FOOTBALL.

So the Fire Support Group members took the tiny, starving mongrel back to their base at Camp Bastion in lawless Helmand province.

They named her Hera, after the Greek goddess of women, and nursed her back to health.

Some of you may have seen a story in The Scottish Sun a few weeks ago about a young pup called Hera?  Well, the Nowzad Team is happy to tell you all that Hera reached the Afghan Rescue safely and we are hoping to have her home in the very near future.

As well as Hera, we also have Very Lucky and Sasha at the Afghan Rescue and have an ever growing list of requests for help.

Currently we have a list of rescues that is getting bigger on a daily basis.  We are currently trying to arrange transport for Brin, Dave, Lucy, Fifa, Sheba, RPG & Santa’s Little Helper, Spin, Dutch and USMC Cat.  Most of the requests we currently have are in the Southern areas of Afghanistan and many of them are in areas that are Taliban held territory so it is extremely dangerous for us to go in and collect these animals which means there is no guarantee we can get to them in time but we will do everything we can to ensure the safety of all these animals.  We also had on our list of rescues a lovely young pup called Bella but sadly whilst we were making arrangements to collect her, Bella went off camp and was killed.

At this stage we are unable to give much detail about some of these animals but we will keep you updated as the missions to get them to safety progress.

Early July 2010 Stewie was transported to the Afghan Rescue and on 23 July 2010 made her journey to South Africa where she is now settled with her new family and has been renamed Sasha.

Nowzad Dogs & RSPCA Mutt Strutt

The 2nd Nowzad Dogs & RSPCA Manchester & Salford Branch Mutt Strutt will take place on Sat 18th September 2010 between 1100 and 1300. The walk is a gentle 5km in the beautiful surroundings of Boggart Hole Clough. We do require a minimum sponosrship of £10 or you can make a donation of £15 and not have to worry about raising sponsorship.  Money will be split equally between the 2 charities. Sponsored by James Wellbeloved all walkers will receive a goody bag and there are prizes for those raising over £50. When Corporal Sarah Marriott rescued the tiny puppy, he was barely the size of her hand.

The 30-year-old Army medic, who was on foot patrol with the 2nd Yorkshire Regiment in Helmand Province, was told that the youngsters had been asked to drown the little dog because his owners did not want him – so she carried him back to her base….
