Recycle your clothes and raise money for Nowzad Dogs

Nowzad Dogs has partnered with Charity Ecosystem a UK fundraising partner that collects donations of clothing for UK charities. Charity Ecosystem collects unwanted clothing from supporters nationwide with the money raised going directly to Nowzad!

Not every charity has the capacity or the ability to process donations of clothing, but by working with Charity Ecosystem as a fundraising partner, this enables us to raise much needed additional funds for the charity and the animals that so desperately need our help.

When you register with Charity Ecosystem, you take the first step towards donating to Nowzad Dogs without leaving your home or even spending any money.

The charity will directly receive any money raised from clothing sent to Charity Ecosystem and with their free nationwide collection service it couldn’t be easier to request a bag and donate your unwanted clothing in aid of Nowzad.

Nowzad 2013 Dartmoor Challenge

On Saturday 21st September 2013 join Pen Farthing, Founder and Chairman of Nowzad Dogs in a challenging (but always fun) trek across the wilds of Dartmoor, at times following the route of the Royal Marine Green Beret 30 mile endurance march to raise money for Nowzad Dogs! You have the option to trek either 10 miles or 15 miles under the watchful eye of experienced Mountain Leaders who will ensure you have an enjoyable and safe time.

Saturday evening will also see us all gather for a pint and the famous Nowzad Dogs/Animals Asia quiz at The Plume & Feathers Pub in Princetown and for those that feel brave enough there is also the choice of taking part in an exhilarating climb and abseil on a Dartmoor Tor on the Sunday!

Question: How is the money I donate spent? How do I know it is used to help an Afghan stray companion animal? Can my donation go towards a specific animals?

Answer from Nowzad: As a charity we are bound by the strict auditing regulations demanded by the UK charity commission. The board of trustees make sure the money is used to maximum effect in making a difference to the lives of animals in Afghanistan, which includes the daily running costs of the Nowzad Afghan shelter, rescue transport costs, animal food and medicines (including vaccines) and of course our Afghan staff wages. If, for whatever reason the companion animal rescue is not successful (disease or injury) then Nowzad will use the money collected on this Go Fund Me page to support the daily running of the Nowzad shelter – if you are not happy with our policy then please do not donate as we are unable to offer refunds. Donating via Go Fund Me is not tax deductible. Please visit the Soldiers’ Animals Companion fund www.sacfund.com if you wish to make a tax-deductible donation from the US. If you have any further questions about how to donate then please just ask at donations@nowzad.com

We would like to make everybody aware that this Go Fund Me or Just Giving page is not the only method that is being used to fund raise for the rescue costs associated with this companion animal from Afghanistan. The total required for a companion animal to travel to north America is on average $4000 (we make no profit and everything is subject to currency valuations and fuel prices on the day). To try and reflect the donations received from sources such as the Soldier’s Animals Companion Fund www.sacfund.com or via direct PayPal transfers, you may see the total amount required for this particular Go Fund Me less than the $4000 average. If you need further explanation then please just ask!

There will also be a talk & slideshow on the work of Nowzad Dogs by founder and chairman Pen Farthing. Please come along and join in with the opportunity to meet Pen and the lovely Sandbag . Nowzad Dogs Supporter Event

One of our fantastic supporters is organising a fundraising walk in aid of Nowzad Dogs on Sunday 24th February 2013.

The walk will be taking place from Coulson Park, Park Road, Lostwithiel, Cornwall PL22 OBY at 11:00am. The walk is open to everyone and will be great fun for dogs as the route will include walking across several fields.

She was just an ordinary brown mutt, a stray, but Pvt. Conrad Lewis loved her.

Lewis, a British paratrooper in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, adopted the dog and named her Pegasus. Everyone called her Peg.

In his letters home, Lewis described Peg as a member of his military family: “I have taught her to sit and give me her paw…. She patrols with us, she is not afraid of the Taliban or their bullets.”

Virginia Marine Shaun Duling recently returned home to the U.S. from a year-long deployment in Afghanistan with a broken heart and a worn-in dog collar that belonged to a friend he was forced to leave behind — and that he feared he would never see again.

The collar belonged to Bolt, a stray dog that became Duling’s closest companion during a long and lonely winter in Afghanistan. When Duling left the country last month to return home to Alexandria, Virginia, Duling and Bolt had become inseparable, making Duling’s homecoming painfully bittersweet.
