Noodle

Noodle came to the Nowzad shelter in April 2011. Noodle had been given to her contractor owner by a high ranking Afghan Officer as a small sickly puppy and her contractor owner and her colleagues nursed Noodle back to full health. Policy on camp meant that once Noodle was fully grown as she definitely did not pass for one of the normal German Sherpard type working dogs around the camp! So, a plan was hatched to get this huge dog

Aries and Bear’s owner got in touch with Nowzad in February 2011. He had got 2 gorgeous pups that he had saved from certain death and now he wanted to take them home to the USA and give them a good life.

Dexter

Before he came to the shelter

Dexter was a lovely pup of around 9 weeks old when he arrived at the Nowzad shelter in April 2011. His ears and tail had been cut off . He found his soldier when during a visit to a local store some children brought him to show to the soldiers.

Marmahl arrived at the Nowzad shelter in April 2011 after his owner found out that there was a good chance Marmahl was going to be euthanized on base.

Fleegal and Slinky

Fleegal and Slinky the cats had been adopted by a contractor working on a base in Central Afghanistan. As brother and sister they were very close and never went far without each other.

Princess Too

Princess Too came along to the Nowzad shelter with Odie in March 2011. Her name on arrival was actually just Princess but we already had another Princess at the shelter so she became known as Princess Too.

Odies owner asked for Nowzad to help him send Odie home in March 2011. Odie arrived along with his friend Princess Too at the end of March 2011.

“When we first arrived on our outpost Odie was very shy and would not interact with anybody.

The Famous 5

Famous 5 1

Tambah, MJ, Trigger, Rosie and Zito were a litter of pups born on a base in Eastern Afghan. They quickly became very attached to their soldiers and in March 2011 we received this family of 5 at the Nowzad shelter. Each dog had its own distinct personality and they all got on well as a group.

Princess

Princess’s owner contacted Nowzad in January 2011. Princess was a tiny little pup who was very much a lady and her owner who was getting ready to leave Afghanistan could not bear the thought of leaving her behind as her story below explains.

Ninja Cat

Ninja cat was rescued from a base in Southern Afghanistan. He had lived on base since he was a kitten and had become very attached to his caregivers. Without warning an order came out to destroy all animals on base and Ninja’s owner could not bear for that to happen so he contacted Nowzad and without delay we jumped into action to get Ninja to the safety of the Nowzad Shelter.
