Dexter

Before he came to the shelter

Dexter was a lovely pup of around 9 weeks old when he arrived at the Nowzad shelter in April 2011. His ears and tail had been cut off . He found his soldier when during a visit to a local store some children brought him to show to the soldiers.

Dexter’s story in his owners words is below

The Famous 5

Famous 5 1

Tambah, MJ, Trigger, Rosie and Zito were a litter of pups born on a base in Eastern Afghan. They quickly became very attached to their soldiers and in March 2011 we received this family of 5 at the Nowzad shelter. Each dog had its own distinct personality and they all got on well as a group.

Princess

Princess

Princess’s owner contacted Nowzad in January 2011. Princess was a tiny little pup who was very much a lady and her owner who was getting ready to leave Afghanistan could not bear the thought of leaving her behind as her story below explains.

Ninja Cat

ninja

Ninja cat was rescued from a base in Southern Afghanistan. He had lived on base since he was a kitten and had become very attached to his caregivers. Without warning an order came out to destroy all animals on base and Ninja’s owner could not bear for that to happen so he contacted Nowzad and without delay we jumped into action to get Ninja to the safety of the Nowzad Shelter.

Noah

Noah

In mid 2010 Noah’s contractor owner brought him to the Nowzad shelter for his vaccinations and to get an injured leg checked over. Noah actually had a broken leg but after treatment by a local vet he was allowed to go home with his owner to recover.

Cristo and Pablo

Before they came to Nowzad

Cristo and Pablo’s owner asked Nowzad for help in February 2011. Cristo and Pablo were another 2 cats that enjoyed a life on luxury living in an aircraft hangar but their owner wanted to give them a better life and bring them back to the USA.

At the end of Feb 2011 we had arranged for Cristo and Pablo to come to the Nowzad shelter but on the very morning they were due to arrive we took a phone call from their owner to tell us that only Cristo was coming as Pablo had been run over or suffered a crush injury that morning and he did not think he would make it.
