Ajax arrived with us at the end of May 2012. He was a gorgeous, huge and very clever black and white Tom cat! Along the way he had managed to escape from his box in the car and intent on evading capture when he arrived.

Sipper’s contractor owner first contacted us in Feb 2012 to ask for help in sending Sipper home to America. We planned for 2 months for his rescue and then in May 2012 we were able to fly him from Helmand to the Nowzad shelter.

Dusty arrived at the shelter in June 2012. He was a tiny bundle of fun who had endless energy!
Dusty had been born on the flight line at a base in Southern Afghanistan and he had provided hours of comfort and stress release for his soldier. As is often the case an order then came out that dogs were not permitted on post and that if Dusty was not moved quickly he would be in danger of being euthanized.

Dagger was taken in my a US Soldier in October 2011. She had been found at around 3 weeks old all alone in a compound in Helmand. Not wanting to see anything bad happen to her she was taken back to base where her soldier set about nursing her back to good health.

Roxy’s owner contacted us in March 2012. Nowzad had recently help to send home the puppy that belonged to one of her friends called Trigger and now she wanted us to help in getting Roxy home.
Roxy arrived at the shelter when it was still very cold and she was running a high fever and had some discharge from her nose. We immediately isolated Roxy because there was a very real chance that she had contracted Distemper before arriving with us.

Karen was born and raised in Helmand province. She was taken care of by soldiers and when it was time for her soldier to leave he contacted us for help in getting her home.
Karen got to the Nowzad shelter in April 2012. She was one of the few female ‘ginger’ cats we see and she was in excellent health and was huge!

Star arrived at the Nowzad shelter with her mother, Mazar early in 2012.
Star was only around 5 or 6 weeks old so she was to young to be sent to the USA with Mazar so when Mazar left Star stayed with us.

Poppy came to Nowzad in July 2011. Her British soldier could not bear the thought of leaving her behind and contacted us to ask for help.
Poppy was an absolute pleasure to have at the shelter, she was great with the other dogs and was a real hit with the kennel staff.

Katy arrived at the Nowzad shelter in September 2011. She received a clean bill of health and all of her shots and quickly settled into life at the shelter.

Tilly and Baby Cat had led a fabulous life with their British owners who worked in Afghanistan when we received a request for help from them. They had been forced to return to the UK to work and were not able to take Tilly and Baby Cat with them and had left them to be cared for by friends in Kabul.
The family missed Tilly and Baby Cat and then they stumbled across Nowzad and of course we could not say no.
