Mazar lived on a base in Mazar e Sharif along with her litter of pups. One by one her pups we homed with Afghans until only Mazar and Star remained. Mazar’s soldier did not want to leave this gentle giant mum behind when he left and he could not bear to leave Star on the base so Nowzad stepped up and transport was arranged for both of them to the shelter.
Mazar and Star arrived on a very cold winters day so we kept her and her pup indoors for a few days whilst we fattened them up and prepared a kennel for them. Both Mazar and her pup were in good health and soon it was time for Mazar to leave for America to be reunited with her soldier. Star was too young to leave us at this point so she went into a foster home where she will remain until she is old enough to be sent home to be reunited with Mazar.
Mazar went home in March 2012.
